Summer Fishing Destinations in North Carolina

Outside of his work as CEO of Flanders, Harry Smith enjoys offshore fishing in his free time.

Long recognized as a summer destination for fishing enthusiasts, North Carolina plays host to some of the most sought after freshwater fishing. Nestled in the foothills of Blue Ridge, Lake Rhodhiss is home to striped bass, catfish, crappies, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass. During the hot summer months of July and August, Shearon Harris is the only lake in the Triangle-area where anglers can find largemouth bass schooling on the surface.

In terms of saltwater fishing, the inshore region of Sheepshead includes some of the largest specimens in the entire state of North Carolina. Anglers typically gravitate toward areas with underwater structures such as rocks and broken concrete, which contain the barnacles that large fish feed upon. Common inshore fish species include convict fish and flounder.

Prior to his role as CEO of Flanders, Harry Smith earned a bachelor of science in business administration from the East Carolina University (ECU) College of Business.
