The Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament

Businessman Harry Smith most recently served as CEO of Flanders Corporation, a provider of residential and industrial air filtration products. In his time as CEO, Harry Smith increased the company’s earnings from a negative figure to over $30 million. In his free time, he enjoys offshore fishing, and won the 2012 Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament.

The Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament is organized annually by the Virginia Beach Billfish Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that aims to conserve marine resources and raise funds for local youth charities. Over $610,000 has been raised and donated to area groups such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Children’s Performance Workshops, the Virginia Beach D.A.R.E. program, the Billfish Foundation, and the Recreational Fishing Alliance.

The family-oriented big-game fishing tournament is a well-known draw to the community. Evening dock parties include live rock music, five-star dinners, and a top-shelf bar. Anglers compete in teams for cash prizes totaling over $400,000 in categories including Top Lady, Top Junior, and Top Boat.
